The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) launched the initiative to "Promote Innovation and Research in Germany" in 2006. Under the brand "Research in Germany" several German organisations, such as the International Bureau of the BMBF, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service, the German Research Foundation and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft organise measures and events to present German innovation and research in key international markets. The initiative seeks to strengthen and expand R&D collaboration between Germany and international partners.
Under the brand „Research in Germany – Land of Ideas“, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Research Foundation (DFG), Fraunhofer and the Humboldt Foundation (AvH) join forces and organise events to present German innovation and research in India.

Following the “Nanotechnologies” and “Environmental Technologies” campaigns, the current campaign is about the topic of “Green Production Technologies”.
The Humboldt Foundation is building up a cross-organisational network of research alumni in which individuals who have been sponsored by various German research funding and research facilitating organisations are all integrated in a sustainable network.
